Following the launch of our Lytham Wellbeing project, we have held our first Wellbeing Worker recruitment day today at St Anne’s Parish Church. The workshop consisted of both individual and team-based tasks, in order for people to demonstrate their unique strengths, personalities and skill-sets. Our expert care team will work together to analyse the day, and ultimately find the best people to form part of our first self-managed team.

Our volunteers demonstrated to attendees how to find out what really matters to older people, as part of our person-centred approach to care. Person-centred care focuses on individuals needs, qualities, abilities, preferences and hobbies as apposed to their illnesses; as well as ensuring those individuals are always treat with dignity and respect.

All of our attendees at the event, including staff each brought along something to share for lunch – also known as a ‘Jacobs Join’. The idea behind this was to create the strong sense of teamwork and trust; as well as getting to know one another; which is fundamental within our Wellbeing Teams. These are just some of the delicious treats which were brought along!

Throughout the day, the applicants participated in a variety of care specific tasks and activities. These included reflecting upon situations and experiences, explaining what actions they would take within realistic scenarios, and talking to the rest of the team about what personally matters to them. Applicants also paired up to give one another a hand massage, to show how comfortable they were being close to somebody else, such as when they have to deliver personal care within their role.

All applicants also completed a One Page Profile which consists of three simple headings: what people appreciate about me, what’s important to me and how best to support me. These One Page Profiles are what we use to match our Wellbeing Workers up with individuals; based on shared personalities, interests and hobbies – meaning that our persons’ supported will never feel like a tick on a checkbox.
